COLUMBUS- On January 30, the ACLU of Ohio will testify before the House Criminal Justice Committee to oppose SB 1, legislation that significantly increases penalties for fentanyl and related substances, and will increase the population of Ohio’s already severely overcrowded prisons.
CLEVELAND— This morning the ACLU of Ohio and the Juvenile Justice Coalition sent a letter to Cuyahoga County leadership urging the officials to expedite reforms to address the systemic problems at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
COLUMBUS—The ACLU of Ohio says that House Bill 439 does not go far enough to reform the state’s broken bail system. The bill requires courts to use a “risk assessment” tool when setting bail in misdemeanor cases that the ACLU cautions will need closely watched over time.
