COLUMBUS - Today the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio sent a letter to Attorney General David Yost stating the organization’s support of a review of federal law enforcement access to Ohio’s facial recognition database, while also encouraging the attorney general to examine additional ways Ohioans’ personal information is accessed by the federal government via the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG) system. The ACLU of Ohio poses six additional questions/concerns we encourage Mr. Yost to research in order to preserve Ohioans’ privacy.

“We appreciate Attorney General Yost’s review and believe a thorough examination will provide answers Ohioans seek about what is being done with their private, personal information when it is obtained by the federal government. Renewed attention on OHLEG, facial recognition, and drivers’ licenses is welcome, but until we know how many and which federal agencies have access to OHLEG, and for what purposes those agencies use that information, we are missing the larger points of this broad discussion.”
