Our Take on This Bill

The ACLU of Ohio opposes measures that give the government unnecessary power to monitor or intrude on the private lives of individuals, including youth.  HB 535 is cause for concern in its current form because of language that could be construed to allow people, like school administrators and teachers, access to a young person’s private communications.

Bill Status

5/22/2012: Probation officers were removed from the bill’s list of individuals authorized to intercept youth communications.
