COLUMBUS – Today the Ohio Student Association (OSA) endorsed a ballot initiative to modernize Ohio’s elections. The proposed constitutional amendment would expand voter registration, solidify early voting, and ensure timely ballots for military and overseas citizens. Ohioans for Secure and Fair Elections refiled the petition on February 10 with the Attorney General’s Office. The official campaign launch will occur in the coming weeks.
The following statement can be attributed to Ohio Student Association Executive Director, Prentiss J. Haney:
"Ohio is strongest when we all participate in our democracy. We are not living up to this promise. Currently, one out of three Ohio voters that have been purged from the voter rolls is a young person that is now on the outside of our democracy looking in. We are simply better than that. OSA is endorsing this ballot initiative for all Ohioans - no matter if you are Black, white, or brown - because we believe that our democracy works better for us all when our voting systems are modern, efficient, and secure."
The Ohio Chapter of the NAACP, Ohio’s A. Philip Randolph Institute, the Ohio Environmental Council, the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, and the Ohio Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism have also endorsed the campaign. Ohioans for Secure and Fair Elections continues to build a non-partisan, broadly representative buckeye coalition with Ohio veterans, faith-based groups, members of the disability rights community, advocacy and legal organizations.
