Action Alert! The Ohio House of Representatives has it backwards. They are considering a bill – House Bill 477 – that would restrict government offices from providing language assistance to people who are not fluent in English. What they fail to realize is that non-English speakers, U.S. citizens and immigrants alike, want to learn English. The problem is that there are more people who want to learn English than there are English language classes to help them learn. House Bill 477 does not reflect reality. Yet, the House could vote on HB 477 as soon as this week. Call your Representative today and urge them to vote against HB 477. You can look up your Representative by name or zip code online at http://www.house.state.oh.us/jsps/Representatives.jsp. Or you can call 1-800-282-0253 to leave a message for your Representative, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. Please let us know once you have contacted your Representative and if you receive a response. We can be reached at (216) 472-2200 or contact@acluohio.org. Thank you, Go to our Immigrant Rights page.
